English Schools XC Champs!

Posted on: March 15, 2026 by Ian Boyle Share this post
The best athletes from each of the 46 counties came together in Liverpool yesterday to compete for national cross country honours.
Each county is permitted to select a maximum of 8 athletes per race, with the first 6 finishers counting towards the team competition, making selection itself a significant achievement and a reflection of consistent performance throughout the season.
To even qualify for this event, athletes must progress from district, then regional races, to be considered for selection for the national stage.
LWAC was exceptionally well represented at the Anglian Schools XC Championships, with a large number of club athletes selected to compete for Lincolnshire Schools across all age groups from Year 7 through to Senior level. The Anglian Schools Championships bring together five counties, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, and Suffolk.
Despite a small number of Lincoln Wellington athletes missing the event due to illness, injury, or clashes with other competitions, the club still had significant representation and impact throughout the championships. Key highlights included a 1st place for both Molly & Isla Porter in Junior & Senior Girls respectively at Anglian level.
Please see results for National XC Champs, where the Junior Girls finished as 7th team, Phoebe Langlands placed 17th in the Intermediate Girls, Mollie Grant 53rd in the Senior Girls, and a great 93rd for an in-form Dan Henry at Intermediate Boys level. The Junior Girls had no less than 7 LWAC athletes! Welly were also representing Lincs, Notts, and Leicestershire & Rutland!
