A Proud Moment for LWAC – Alzheimer’s Society

We’re delighted to share that our LWAC Summer Race Series, together with the LWAC Road Running Training Group’s Chip Run, has helped raise £578 for the Alzheimer’s Society this year.

A heartfelt thank you to every runner who entered and supported the events, our fantastic volunteers and supporters, and especially to Sean Baxter, our Race Director, who began this fundraising initiative in memory of his mother, who sadly passed away from Alzheimer’s disease.
Sean explained, “I chose Alzheimers Society because my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimers and suffered with the disease for over 10 years before I was forced to place her in a specialist private care home for the last 4 years of her life.
The “Memory Mile” race (“A Run to Remember” ) was named by Sean, who came up with the idea when thinking about his mother and the disease.
“To me it’s ‘The Mary Mile’ in memory of my mum, Mary Baxter. It’s such a cruel disease and our family felt we had lost my mother twice, once when placing her in a care home and selling her home and property to put towards the cost when she no longer recognised her own home, and again when she finally died.
My mother went into Cloverleaf Care Home in Lincoln a week before COVID broke out, which gave her a new lease of life for a while. So the @alzheimerssoc is very close to my heart and I feel very grateful to Lincoln Wellington AC supporting the charity in the 5K Series”.
To everyone who supported this race, your generosity and community spirit make a real difference. The letter we received from Alzheimer’s Society (pictured) is a wonderful reminder of the impact we can have when we come together.

Thank you all for being part of something truly special, and a huge thank you to @seanrbaxter1 for everything he does within the club that often may go unnoticed
