3 LWAC Athletes Selected for Prestigious England Athletics Programme
Posted on: October 16, 2025 by Ian Boyle Share this post3 #LWAC athletes from @lwac_lightning_squad have been selected for prestigious @englandathletics programme!
@islap_run @mollie.grant27 & @xellarose_whitworthx have all been chosen for the latest cohort. The Youth Talent Programme (YTP) is the first step on the Talent pathway designed to meet the needs of identified, talented English athletes/para athletes aged between 16 and 18 years of age and their coaches.

The programme focuses on developing a dual career for the athlete/para athlete through fulfilling their potential within the sport and also in their education and employability.
The programme aims to complement club provision and add value to the athlete/para athlete and coach plan to help develop a broad range of skills, abilities and behaviours needed for senior success. This is delivered through practical training sessions with like-minded athletes in their event group, performance support sessions and workshops. There is also the opportunity for coaches to access additional qualifications, mentoring and support delivered through the England Athletics YTP coaches.
The YTP is the athletes’ first introduction to the England Athletics Talent Pathway and incorporates the Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE). The diploma looks to support athletes in developing skills and knowledge that will support their development throughout their career, as well as providing them with UCAS points as they make their university applications.
Brand new for 2025, the Talent Pathway will feature two new programmes, the Talent Development Programme and the Performance Programme. These will replace the Junior Talent and Senior Programmes of recent years. The Talent Pathway is fully inclusive, however the Para Academy offers athletes the additional opportunity to train alongside athletes from within their classification and receive support dedicated to their disability.
With the Commonwealth Games fast approaching in 2026, the Talent Pathway will provide a key springboard in athletes’ preparations. Our athletes begin their journey at Loughborough in around 10 days time.
Let’s wish them every success and congratulate them on a huge achievement!
